Snyder Cohn Sports Leagues

By Keith O. Jennings, CPA/Proud Pittsburgh Pirate Supporter for 28 years (well…proud for the last three months)

For one article in the summer I like to highlight the numerous sport leagues in which Snyder Cohn associates participate. Here is a rundown, no pun intended:

  • Billy Litz joined a cricket league back in April. Currently, the first match of the season is still in the first inning with a score of 1,000 – 975. They hope to complete the match in June of 2014.
  • Jonathan Leon just wrapped up his first season of jai alai with a win/loss record of 0-25 and five broken bones. In a short interview, he informed me he will not be participating in the league in 2014. Seriously, look up this sport on the internet (series of tubes)…ridiculous!!!
  • BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, our co-ed accounting softball league just completed its regular season, which means…time for the playoffs!

For the last three years, Snyder Cohn has participated in a softball league made up of other accounting firms. We chose this league because as everyone knows, CPAs make Softballthe best softball/baseball players. However, what most people do not know is that Babe Ruth was a CPA before he became a ballplayer. Not only was he one of the greatest ever to play the game, but he was also an undercover IRS agent during his playing days, tasked with uncovering baseball players that did not file taxes in the appropriate jurisdictions. (Editor’s note – of course this isn’t true, who wrote this article? Oh, I did. My mistake.)

After our first two years of relative success (regular season champs in 2011, playoff championship game in 2012, where sadly, we were bested), we are still Teampining after the elusive championship trophy. However, heading into this year’s playoffs, I think all the pieces may finally be in place for us to take that final step.

With a squad full of accountants, that naturally means one thing: STATS, STATS, AND MORE STATS. Feel free to click here to peruse our 2013 stats. All players are available for autographs and special appearances, if the price is right.

We have also included action shots from the season here. Wish us luck in the playoffs!

UPDATE: Snyder Cohn victorious in championship game!!!
