Senior Accountant

Position Summary:

Works on progressively more complex client engagements with a minimum of assistance. Assists in training of staff accountants; supervises staff accountants and reviews their work. The Senior Accountant has increasing involvement and communication with client personnel. Independently solves routine technical problems.

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs diversified accounting, auditing and tax assignments under the direction of a senior, supervisor, manager or partner, at all times working to meet time constraints and client deadlines
  • Directs and instructs staff accountants where applicable, in work to be performed and working paper review
  • Prepares and indexes working papers; perform various procedures established under generally accepted auditing standards to verify accuracy and validity of clients’ financial matters and their compliance with generally accepted accounting principals
  • Prepares routine correspondence to client for approval and signature by a partner; writes comments for management letters
  • Drafts reports, including footnotes as required; other reports, projects, and duties as may be assigned; assists in proofing financial statements and other documents
  • Acts as a liaison between client and Snyder Cohn team members to provide job status, issues, and potential problems in order to come to suggested solutions and complete the engagement in accordance with the clients expectations and Snyder Cohn’s commitment.
  • Participates in Firm’s business development efforts, including:
    • Providing outstanding and timely service to clients
    • Identifying and making partners aware of potential expanded services we can provide to clients;
    • Beginning to develop a referral network among professional peers (bankers, lawyers, insurance and investment brokers, etc.)
    • Getting involved with professional and civic activities
    • Accompanying partners and managers on business development calls
    • Participating in business development training

  • For A & A Staff: Increased development of a command of GAAP, or industry specific, unique or specialized accounting principles, and financial statement presentations; thorough understanding of GAAS and common audit procedures and techniques
  • For Tax Staff: Increased development of a command of pertinent IRC sections and regulations; proficiency at tax research, including a knowledge of the reference sources available to the Firm

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors’ degree in accounting, or with sufficient course work to sit for the CPA exam; proficiency in the use of computers and computer accounting, financial and tax software programs.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of comparable work experience.
  • Either hold a current and valid CPA license, or be in the process of obtaining the license by taking and passing the applicable state CPA exam; consulting staff are not expected to obtain a CPA license.
