Our History

Success that Spans Ten Decades

As one of the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area’s oldest and largest certified public accounting and business advisory firms, Snyder Cohn takes pride in its heritage as a family-run firm with a reputation for building close, personal relationships that help businesses grow and prosper.

The Beginning

With the CPA profession in its infancy in the late 1920s, a 22-year-old David E. Snyder had the perseverance and determination to build an accounting firm that has enjoyed constant growth for more than eighty years.

Beginning with a handful of friends and relatives as clients and working for a mere $5 a week, David Snyder established roots in providing accounting services to local small businesses. Eventually, the firm began serving larger business and representing diverse industries, as more professionals and partners joined the Snyder Cohn team.

Continuing the “Life Cycle of Success”

Stanley and Eddie Snyder followed in their father’s footsteps as accountants and business leaders. Stepping into their father’s role, they steered the firm with the same mission of earning client trust and confidence. Stanley, whose career spanned 60 years with Snyder Cohn, was instrumental in creating a culture of learning and challenging the status quo to explore new ways of providing clients service and solutions. Listen to Eddie’s leadership story here.

Snyder Cohn has responded to evolving client needs by building a team of experts in six core practices including:

  • Accounting and auditing services
  • Tax services
  • Outsourced accounting services
  • Healthcare and medical practice services
  • Retirement and pension plan services
  • Business advisory services

Continuity and Longevity Never Go Out of Style

“My father built this firm on the premise of providing the highest quality service in a professional yet, decidedly warm and caring atmosphere.  The ‘life cycle of success’ has held strong at Snyder Cohn, for its associates, partners and—most importantly—Snyder Cohn’s clients.”

– Eddie Snyder, Chairman, Snyder Cohn

Today, under Steve Braunstein’s leadership, Snyder Cohn continues to work with clients to seize opportunities and cause success.
